Yankee City Theater Project "Searching for the Soul of the City" Newburyport, Mass 1956-2009

The Yankee City Theater Project is a multi-media documentary theatre piece chronicling the changes that have swept through the city of Newburyport Massachusetts in the last fifty years. Through interviews with over fifty Newburyport residents from all walks of life, this an important, illuminating entertaining piece of oral history. The play, which features a mix of live actors and videotaped interviews, also tells the story of life on Newburyport’s streets, documenting the slow change from the rougher, more eccentric city of the 70’s into the upscale bedroom community it has become. Newburyport heroes and eccentrics, now gone, are remembered and revisited.

Robert Mills Symposium

This one-day symposium will explore the common and unique goals, designs and operations of the New England Custom Houses of Robert Mills, America's first native born architect. The symposium will be a unique opportunity to explore the rich history and significance of these landmark buildings; learn from historians and experts on the political and economic context in which these buildings were designed and constructed, the daily operations of a custom house, masonry building technology and its preservation challenges. A parallel exhibit of the New England Custom Houses of Robert Mills is on display at the CHMM in Newburyport through December 2009.

Symposium admission for CHMM and ICA&CA members is $25.00. Admission for non-members is $40.00. Tickets are limited and will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.

Valerie's Gallery

Pawsitively Best Friends is an independently owned shop specializing in gifts and accessories for cats, dogs, and the people who love them. We stock many basic supplies, such as toys, beds, bowls, and treats as well as unique accessories including pet clothing, carseats, lifejackets, and even pet strollers.

For the summer season, we have carriers, travel bowls, backpacks, flea & tick products, and pet sunglasses. We’ve got the best selection of collars, leashes, and harnesses around! Our shop is pet friendly (YES! Your pet is welcome to shop with you!) and our staff of pet owners are welcoming and knowledgeable. Open 7 days.
