Custom House Maritime Museum Grant
We are thrilled to share that the Custom House Maritime Museum has been awarded a Massachusetts 250 grant for $65,000! We are proud to have supported and advocated for this grant, which underscores the significance of Newburyport's role in American history.
The grant will support Newburyport's Road to Revolution, a collaborative project spearheaded by the Custom House Maritime Museum, with involvement from Lowell's Boat Shop, Central Congregational Church, and other community partners. This initiative, led by the Museum of Old Newbury and the Custom House Maritime Museum, will delve into Newburyport's pivotal contributions to the American Revolution, from the Battle of the Plains of Abraham and its links to the Wolfe Tavern to the public tea party protests.
Protect Tipped Employees
As President of the Chamber, I fully endorse the efforts of our restaurant committee and the many area employees advocating to protect tipped employees. I encourage everyone to learn more about this important. |
Transit Innovation Grant
MEVA has been awarded a $1.9 million grant to expand its bus services, including the introduction of the #11 bus line. This new route, connecting Lawrence, Haverhill, West Newbury, and Newburyport, will provide vital access to job opportunities and critical health services, addressing a key priority for downtown Newburyport business owners.
Nate Allard, our President, played an instrumental role in this effort by working closely with MEVA to gather community input through surveys and advocate for the need for direct routes and extended bus schedules. His work helped highlight the community's needs, leading to this significant funding to enhance public transportation in the region.
